Common Ground Fair Days A Success!

Well, I am happy to report that the fair days were a success for us, as well as for The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association. They had a record attendance overall, and especially on Saturday with over 27,000 attendees! Wow! I love the fair, and was able to spend a day (Friday) just being a fairgoer. Something that as a vendor all previous years, I had not been able to do. With Annie and Amie covering for me at our showroom, it made it possible for me to do so.

And we were successful in drawing some of the many visitors to the area into our showroom and to see my demonstrations of the horse powered shop. Along with this, and most importantly, we sold some of my popular Mission Rockers and took in a large order of chairs and benches.

I am so grateful for the continued interest by many in the work I do, and find it very fulfilling to be able to provide quality  furniture that is comfortable as well. I also enjoy meeting people and having interesting conversations with them. This might be one of my greatest weaknesses as it tends to eat into my workday! So I have to watch myself and strive to keep a balance between my Southern hospitality manners and German industrial spirit to get the work done. (I was raised in Virginia – hence the hospitality aspect, and I have German heritage, hence the industrial spirit).

Shortly after the fair, Annie and I decided to visit King’s Landing in New Brunswick, Canada, about 3 1/2 hours drive from here. This is a living history museum depicting the middle 1800’s in New Brunswick. It’s really an excellent place to visit and be inspired with the beauty of more primitive times in our past. I find it very fascinating and could have spent more than a day there. If you like history, we would highly recommend this experience!
