Getting ready for the Common Ground Fair
It’s that time of the year again, for the wonderful Common Ground Fair! This will be a different year for Locust Grove Woodworks however. I have chosen not to have my furniture display booth at the fair, which I have had for six consecutive years since 2009.
My decision was based on the cost factor of the booth itself, plus the problems with morning rain in my booth caused by condensation overnight from the frost (especially bad last year on Friday morning). Last year I was unable to open my booth until 11 AM due to this!
Since I have a wonderful setting here in the showroom, with the Shaker ambiance, I decided to see if I can attract some of the folks on their way to the fair to drive the 1 1/2 mile distance to see and visit the showroom and shop. I will also be giving demonstrations of the horse powered shop I still use.
So I’ve been busy sprucing up the showroom and making signs for the highway to let people know. I even got the first flight of steps up into the shop finally covered with their proper maple treads and risers! It looks a whole lot better now. I hope you will come and visit us!
For your interest, I have some very nice rocking benches just finished and for sale. I’ll be taking pictures and posting them on the website soon, but come now and see them in person! I believe you’ll really like them!
